Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Plan
The Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Plan was endorsed by regional Councils in June 2010. It identifies the regional priorities and provides a clear platform for partnerships between both the Federal and State Governments and the regional community, for investment in economic and community development activities.
Governance arrangements build on regional leadership and partnering with other stakeholders in the regional plan context. It is based on a two tiered approach-a larger strategic group meeting quarterly (Regional Strategic Group) and a smaller working group (Regional Working Group) meeting more regularly, with capacity to monitor progress. The Wimmera Development Association provides management and administration support for the implementation of the plan.
Key acheivments against the Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Plan to date include
- Government responce to the "Positioning of the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project Region to Capitalise on New Economic Development Opportunties-March 2011" inquiry has formed the basisi for planning.
- WDA regional branding project funded by the Victorian Government
- Initial Bureau of Meteorology discussions regarding Wimmera radar
- Wimmera Mallee tourism group focus on collaboration between rural municipalities
- Input into Victorian Transport Connections-new Victorian transport stratergy
- A number of renewable energy projects under discussion
- WDA renewable/sustainability position funded by Victorian Government
- Grampians ICT audit completed and promoted to NBN
- Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal under construction
- Horsham and Stawell Aerodromes-runway construction funded
- University of Ballarat and Workco discussions re development of agricultural education-under graduate and post graduate opportunities
- Western Region SWS and West Wimmera Groundwater Strategy-engagement and policy discussions
- Wimmera Leadership funding confirmed 2011-2014
- Wimmera Southern Mallee housing forum held
